ROCKLIN, Calif – Pioneer Community Energy (Pioneer) submitted an Amended Implementation Plan to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to provide electric generation service to El Dorado County and the City of Placerville.  The filing followed the Pioneer Board’s approval of service expansion on Dec. 17, 2020.

The Amended Implementation Plan notifies the CPUC of Pioneer’s intent and process for expanding electric generation service to approximately 68,000 meters in unincorporated El Dorado County and the City of Placerville. Currently, electric customers in those areas receive electric generation exclusively from PG&E.

“Approving the plan to expand into El Dorado County and Placerville makes good business sense,” said Jim Holmes, Pioneer Director and Placer County Supervisor for District 3. “A larger customer base means increased revenues, opportunity for programs, reduced risk, and a stronger position in the energy market.”

El Dorado County and the City of Placerville approached Pioneer staff in the summer of 2020 expressing interest in receiving the benefits of the Pioneer Community Choice Aggregation program including local control and stable rates, among others.

In order to submit a plan for expansion, Pioneer secured approval from each of the current participating agencies: Placer County Board of Supervisors; the City Councils for Auburn, Colfax, Lincoln, Rocklin; and the Town Council for Loomis. The CPUC has up to 90 days to review and approve the amended plan, which upon approval, will allow Pioneer to begin providing electric generation to customers in El Dorado County and the City of Placerville as early as January 2022.
