Pioneer Community Energy (Pioneer) entered into a 15-year agreement with Edwards Sanborn Solar IV, LLC (Sanborn Solar) to receive 33.7 megawatts of solar energy. One megawatt can power approximately 500 average homes for one hour.

Pioneer remains committed to purchasing energy from local resources as available and has contracts in its portfolio with projects in Placer County and Northern California. The Sanborn Solar facility offered an opportunity to provide Pioneer customers with cost effective renewable energy, while contributing to its long-term Renewables Portfolio Standard and incremental resource adequacy requirements as prescribed by the California Public Utilities Commission.

The 300 MW Sanborn solar facility is in unincorporated Kern County, California. Sanborn Solar is a subsidiary of Terra-Gen which was established in August 2007. Terra-Gen specializes in development, construction, and operation of utility-scale wind, solar, energy storage, and geothermal generation facilities.
